Who has rights to stay in social housing after break up?

I was in a relationship with a Dutch person for 3,5 years and I was living with him and being registered in social housing for 2,5 years. We decided to end our relationship, but both would like to stay in this apartment. He was an initial renter and lives there for around 7 years. When I was moving in, I gave up my own rental apartment and I made this apartment my home. I feel very strong emotional attachment to that place, as I am abroad and without my family here. He has his support, parents and friends that he can lean on. We both earn a good salary, mine is a bit higher.
What are the chances that if the case would end up in the mediation that I could stay in the apartment?

Do you have a registered relationship? If not so, are you registered as "medehuurder" ? If not so you have to apply medehuurderschap at the corporation and after they approof you have to submit a request to the kantonrechter arrange a final agreement who is to stay in the appartement.
