What can I do about Landlord?

We have quite a serious issue with a landlord and wondered what our rights are. We had to urgently move from Australia in Jan of this year because my Dutch wife's father was diagnosed with lung cancer. Sadly he died within two weeks of our arrival. We managed to find a house to rent in Veldhoven; there were a number of issues when we first moved in. Sunscreen didn’t work, no electric in the attic, the dishwasher didn’t work, and the front garden and the back garden had been neglected. We told the landlord and he did take quite a long time to fix these issues. We were ok with this as they were only minor things . Other things started to happen over time including the shower leaking which he hasn’t fixed, all the guttering outside in the garden is broken and there are some lights in the garden with bare electrical wires showing.

On August the 6th water started appearing in the hallway. I contacted the landlord straight away and he turned up about 4 days later. Then he had to get an insurance person out to find out where the water was coming from. The leaking started to get much worse. We had to turn the water off at night and we were worried about our four-year-old daughter slipping on large puddles of water. Last weekend water started pouring through the wall into the front room right near electrical wiring and our TV and stereo system.

We immediately contacted the landlord who had gone on holiday and he was very angry. This leak was reported to him three weeks ago. He came back from his holiday, overseas. He was not wearing a face mask and I think he may have been supposed to stay at home for ten days as per the Dutch Governments instructions for returning from overseas. He was in a very hostile mood basically telling my wife’s mother he wanted us out then issued us with a letter to move out by the 31st December. Which was then followed by another letter telling us we have to leave by the 31st December. I think his conduct is disgusting. He's behaving like he's the victim. We have to turn the water off at night. Have water constantly in the hallway. We also have the stress of worrying if there will be a fire because of water getting into the electrics. I would like to report him and make sure that he is not allowed to con somebody else. We have video evidence of water pouring out, and we do have lots of evidence of his neglect.

I would be very grateful if you could provide me with any information or help with this matter. I don't want this man to do this to somebody else. He has caused us so much stress that we are going to just pack up when the lease is over and move back to Australia.

He will do exactly the same again: Landlords do not behave well towards expats and neglect rental law. Focus on your leaving the country and you may postpone the rent one or 2 last months because of the problems. I am sure he is not giving back any deposits. You may report this bad behaviour see
