Dear Sir/Madam,
I have been working for the company as a developer for 7 years. Unfortunately I've fallen a slightly behind in the new programming language and developments. Yesterday the boss had given me an ultimatum; do a course within 6 months or he will fire me. Can you please tell me what my rights are regarding this situation? And what rights he has got? (ps. I have asked to have his request in writing)

In your line of work taking courses is customary and your employer can require you to follow one, especially now that your knowledge admittedly is lagging behind. Typically this is a standard clause in your employment contract if you work in the IT sector.
