Can I still drive on my Polish plates?

I would like to get to know that it's possible to drive in Holland with foreign car plates. I have been in Holland for 4 years and till this time I am driving on polish car plates. From the beginning I have been paying motorrijtuigenbelasting and I thought that it was enough. I had police controls before and nobody mention about foreign car plates. After last control which a had a couple of days ago police officer said that its mandatory to change plates on dutch. I cannot find any information on the government site. Could you advise what I need to do? Can I still drive on my plates?
