Former landlord starts proceedings while I lived without a postal address?

Questioner

I moved out of a house this month with rather wealthy landlords that I had a dispute with. I lived there without a postal address so I think it was illegal. I blocked their numbers when I left and now they have contacted my work twice. The second time was an email threatening that if I don't pay them half of €3000 by the end of week 44 they will claim the full amount from me with their lawyer. The letter also had pictures of the damage and filth, most of it was there before I moved in but I don't have pictures of that. My question is can they sue me and if so can I do anything about it? They are very rich and I can barely pay my rent and bills.

Lawyer

Good afternoon, If you do not comply with the rules of the lease agreement, you can be held civilly liable for this. The landlord can therefore indeed have you appear in court. It is unclear what the amount of € 3,000 consists of. More information about the claim on you is necessary in order to be able to provide you with good advice. Even if you do not agree with the claim, it is wise to respond. If you do not take action while a lawsuit is being initiated, there is a good chance that the judge will rule in the other party's favor. You will also most likely have to pay the costs of the procedure. It is advisable to have legal assistance to respond to the letters of formal notice.
