Why can't I get out of my lease?

I have been trying to get out of my lease for months now and I am unable to do so because of my ex-partner and the landlord. As the main tenant, I would have to insist on it because of my income and she would not be able to rent it alone. Several times a request was made for a new tenant to live with her and every time was rejected. I also terminated the lease and this was stopped by her as co-tenant because she did not agree with it. Now I am stuck with a contract that I no longer have anything to do with, I have not had a key for 2 months and someone else is now living in it. So I can't do anything and I really want to get out of this contract because I could get into serious trouble with this.
