Divorce through a lawyer?

I have been married to an aggressive man for 11 years, have recently been declared unfit for work, have had 2 major operations and have also received a transition payment from that. Do I have to use all that for a lawyer? My income is 800 euros uvw iva benefit. I am 62 years old and have always worked hard and we have a purchased apartment. I hope I will get an answer to my question.
