What to do if your bicycle falls against a parked car?

Questioner

I had put my bike on the stand and when I walked away my bike fell against the car of the person I wanted to ring the bell for. There are considerable scratches on the car and I reported this to the owner. I have third party insurance. What can I do myself?

Good afternoon, In principle, you should contact your liability insurance to have the damage compensated. Perhaps the owner of the car could inform your insurance (in writing) of the damage that has occurred. The insurers can then resolve it among themselves. Thanks for your answer, as I wrote I have a WA insurance and no liability insurance, online I read that there is indeed a difference. And if I report the damage is there a deductible or something, does that affect my insurance/premium?

There is indeed a difference (WA in the case of a motor vehicle and you cause damage vs. liability insurance in the case of other situations. The latter is also called AVP). The damage is very likely not covered by a third-party insurance. From your story I gather that there was no motor vehicle involved, so there will be no coverage. To find out whether there is a deductible, you should read your policy sheet. In most cases, a deductible (or at least the amount thereof) is optional. In my opinion, you would do well to also read the general terms and conditions. If there is no coverage (which I assume in this case), the costs will be at your own expense.
