Zero-hour contract, no salary for late cancellation, no salary in case of illness.
Questioner
I work with other students in a pharmacy. We have been given a contract in which nothing is ever mentioned about our rights. It seems that they want to keep it that way, because otherwise we will probably 'cost too much'. It states that we have an on-call contract, but in practice this is a zero-hours contract. We found out a while ago that we should be paid if we are not called off 24 hours in advance, or if we are sent home. We are also entitled to continued payment of salary when we are sick. In addition, we are supposed to get a permanent contract after 2 years if we want this, but after working at the pharmacy for almost 6 years, this has never been discussed. I am about to leave the pharmacy for a permanent job, but I want to leave it well for the other current and future students who work there. The idea was therefore to write a letter to the bosses with our demands in it, and to sign it with all the students. We think it is no longer appropriate to be treated like this. Of course, there is a risk that there will be other consequences for us. I therefore ask for your advice for this situation. - How can we best approach this? - What are our real rights? - What should be included in this letter? - And what if there are consequences from the bosses, what are our rights then?Lawyer
