I traded my car in for another one in good condition two weeks ago at a dealer. Now he calls me that the head gasket is blown and wants to recover half of the damage from me? Should I give him that money?

I assume that you are a consumer and that you sold your car to a professional company. I also assume that you did not give any guarantees or anything like that. Assuming that, the professional buyer cannot simply recover those costs from you. He was obliged to examine the car in advance for defects or costs that could be expected in the vicinity.
