Appraisal interview without performance review

Questioner

I have a one-year contract with my employer. This runs from April 13, 2021 to April 12, 2022. In the fall, I received a letter of intent stating that if I performed equally, my contract would be extended for an indefinite period. Recently my employer suddenly indicated in an appraisal interview that he did not want to extend my contract. Now I wonder if that is correct, without a performance review between the letter of intent and the appraisal interview. I am looking forward to your answer. Yours sincerely,

In principle, the employer is free to decide not to extend the contract. Sometimes this is not allowed, for example if a demonstrable agreement has been made that the contract would (indeed) be extended. The employer must indicate in writing no later than one month before expiry whether the contract will be extended. If he fails to do so, he will owe you a notice compensation of up to one month's salary (depending on how long he has been in default of the notice obligation). You must have claimed this compensation via the subdistrict court within 2 months after the date of dismissal, otherwise the compensation will lapse. If you wish to discuss this, I refer you to the profile page for my contact details.
