Repay pension contributions?

Questioner

I received the email below from my previous employer, where I left employment 9 months ago (some words removed for privacy reasons of myself and the company): 'As you know, there have been problems within the salary package of ....... For this reason, we have chosen to outsource the salary package to an external party again. As of January 2021, the salaries have been checked again and (sometimes large) differences can be seen in this. We regret this. The differences arose because ......... calculated too little for pension contributions in the system, which resulted in you receiving too much net salary and less payroll tax was paid. We will have to make a correction for this. In your case, this means that you unfortunately have to pay back an amount of .......' Am I legally obliged to pay them this amount even though I am no longer employed?

If you have not fulfilled enough financial obligations, you will in principle have to fulfil them. I do not assume that prescription applies. However, the employer will have to provide a specified and substantiated insight into the amount involved and what it (exactly) relates to.
