Money lent to neighbors
Questioner
Our next-door neighbors came over a few months ago, after an app exchange, to get or borrow money. We have known them for a while because we took care of a cat together. They said they would be evicted because of rent arrears and have a gripping desperate story. My wife was so moved that she immediately transferred a large sum of money. Yet I have thought for some time that their story is not true, a few days later they came twice more asking for money. They said I would like to pay off the loan, but nothing comes of it. It's a large amount, €5000. I would rather have given it to charity..... It probably plays a role that they saw that we had bought a newer car and a folding trailer. That's why I think they saw us as a possible source of money... Do you have any advice for us? we can do little, because the housing association is not allowed to provide information about whether there was indeed a threatened eviction almost taken place by a bailiff. it is remarkable that they have a newer car in front of our door and a new folding trailer. Also remarkable is that the interior of their house, a new one built about 5 years ago, also looks neatly decorated. I don't really feel like talking to the neighbors, because I don't believe they are telling the truth. On the other hand, I don't want to accuse them of anything as long as I can't prove it. Because I don't have any proof of course. After all, the housing association is not allowed to provide any information about this because of privacy... we have asked this question before, but i don't think here. if that is the case, then this message can better be considered as not created. with thanks. and otherwise you may have some advice. if we have been misled, then we can take steps i think.Lawyer
What exactly did you discuss in the app traffic? Was there talk about a loan or a 'gift'? If you have agreed with the neighbours that they will borrow the money, they will have to pay it back, whether the story is true or not. This may be an easier path than having to find evidence that they lied. If it is a 'gift' it is important whether the story is true. If you would not have given the money with the 'truth' that could be a reason to ask for the money back. If you wish, you can contact me to see if I can help you.Neem de volgende stap
