Work meeting not paid

Questioner

Hi, my employer wants me to come to a work meeting once a month for 1-2 hours, but does not want to register these hours as work and therefore does not want to 'pay' them. I work in the hospitality industry, 28 hours on contract. It sounds strange to me that I should have to come to a work meeting 'for free'. I would like to know what my rights are in this regard. Greeting

Lawyer

The employer is required to pay for work consultations. Many employers do not do this, but by law you are entitled to payment. You therefore have a strong case.
