Recently I was visiting with six other students during the curfew. During the night, two police officers knocked on the door and ordered us all to come outside. At that moment, two of the six guests were in bed and there were still three residents and four guests in the living room. Music was playing in the living room and there was still some drinking going on. The windows were all closed, so there can't have been a lot of noise on the street. The door was opened to the officers and after they were not satisfied with the number of people who came outside, they entered the house themselves and also dragged the last two people out of bed. Now we have all received a penalty notice with the punishable offence of causing a noise or causing a disturbance to the neighbours that could disturb the night's rest. When I look up this fine on the internet, I find that it also concerns mischief, which I do not agree with. In addition, I don't know if it makes sense to also mention the following in the objection; The officers said the following to the only international student present, a Belgian boy who has been living in Rotterdam for almost three years: Officer 1: 'You certainly don't know how things work here in the Netherlands.' Officer 2: 'Yes, that Belgian doesn't understand anything.' Officer 1: 'I'll give you a good lesson on how things work in the Netherlands.' Because the penalty notice is more than 130 euros, this will also be noted on our criminal records. Now I understand that in times where the urgent advice is 1 visitor, it is not entirely proper to visit with 6 people. I just do not understand why we did not receive the corona fine or a single fine for noise pollution. We are thinking about filing an objection, but we wonder if this is a good idea. For example, the police have no business behind a door of a house (unless something completely different and serious is suspected and an authorization has been issued).
