What if I cannot safely store my bicycle indoors at my employer's premises?

Questioner

My new employer won't let me park my e-bike in the canteen. This is the only place where it can be safely parked indoors, otherwise it has to be in the shop. My employer says I should just park it outside on the street in a bike rack and buy an extra good lock!! The neighborhood where the shop is located is quite a criminal part of town. So I don't feel like doing that. I'm afraid it will be gone within 2 days. Is my employer obliged to give me a place where I can safely park my e-bike for the entire day?

In principle, your employer is not obliged to do this, unless you have expressly agreed to such an arrangement when entering into the employment relationship.

Parking your bike in the canteen -> seems unhygienic and not nice for your colleagues. Bicycle in shop -> the employer does not have to tolerate it. Cohen's answer is basically correct. That means that you and your employer need to come up with a solution. Employer's 'solution' is not sufficient either. For example, can't you go to work with a cheap(er) bike? I myself have a station bike (cheap and not so bad if it gets stolen). If you and your employer show good will and think a bit creatively, a solution should be possible.
