I have been living in a rental house for over 1.5 years now. The brick (fence) wall between me and my neighbours was already there when I moved in. Now this wall has become very unstable and dangerous due to incorrect placement (the joints are underneath each other instead of halfway between bricks) and old age. The housing association wants to remove it at their expense, but a new fence will be paid for by me and my neighbours. Who is responsible for this wall? The neighbours placed it together with the previous residents of my house. So you would think that they would still be responsible. The wall is also on my property. Which means that in that respect I am responsible of course... this is difficult. Who has the answer?

Did you or your other neighbours take over this wall at the start of the lease as independently installed work? If not, the wall belongs to the landlord and he must take care of its demolition and replacement.
