Dog Liability: Who Pays for Damages?

Questioner

Today I started walking my neighbor's dog at 5:00 PM because she was working at that time. When I was at the ..... street - there is a footpath (former cycle path) next to a cycle path - a car passed me and a moment later it couldn't go any further and turned back, causing me to walk on the verge. She stopped when she was with me and rolled down the window at the right door to ask me for directions, so I came closer. The dog was curious and jumped up against the door, I pulled him back but couldn't prevent four scratches from the dog's nails on the door. I said that and the woman got out to ask for directions, which she found on her phone afterwards (medical center .... on the .... dike). She tried to polish away the scratches but they remained visible, even though the red paint was still on the car, everywhere. She noted down my name and telephone number in order to possibly recover the damages suffered from me, is this possible?

Lawyer

In principle, the owner of the dog is liable for any damage caused by the dog. You walk the dog for her, for which the owner is liable for the damage. After all, this damage would also have occurred if she had walked the dog. The motorist can claim the damage from the neighbor. If you cannot reach an agreement (yet), I will look at your case.
