Last Tuesday I was hit by a car in Düsseldorf. I immediately called the police, filled out a form, took pictures of the license plate of the other party and also took pictures of his identity card. I have WA insurance. A dsg later when I got home I called my insurance to report the damage, which unfortunately says that I was not insured for that because I only have WA insurance, I do not have legal expenses insurance. I am completely shocked and seriously wonder if this is correct? Who has tips for me??

In Germany, the person who caused the accident must pay the legal costs. If the accident was caused by both parties, the legal costs must be paid pro rata. Moreover, legal costs in Germany are often significantly lower than in the Netherlands. If you would rather not hire a lawyer, my advice is that you contact the other party's insurance company directly. The first important question is whether they accept liability. If they confirm this, you can in principle hire a German lawyer without any problems. In this case, the costs will be reimbursed by the other party's insurance company. You only have to make sure that the lawyer settles according to RVG.
