Apply for care leave: your rights after surgery

My husband is having knee surgery soon, which means he can't put any weight on his knee for 6-8 weeks. Now I want to apply for short-term care leave to take care of him for the first 2 days after the surgery, he can't even get drinks in the kitchen himself. This really concerns the first 2 days after the operation, after that there are other solutions. What are my rights, and do I need to provide a doctor's note? or is that not necessary?

In principle, you are entitled to short-term care leave of 2 weeks for a full working week. You must provide the care while you are also the only one who can do so. You can request leave from your employer. In principle, a statement is not necessary. If so, you can always submit it.
