Liability in the event of death in the Netherlands

A close family member died during her stay with us in the Netherlands. She lives abroad and turned out not to be insured. Can we be held liable for the hospital bill and ambulance?

First of all, my condolences. That depends on whether a will has been drawn up and what exactly it states regarding the inheritance. If you act as or are a surviving relative, you can be held liable for the costs if you accept the inheritance. Dutch law will probably apply.
