Questioner

Good evening, I was recently approached out of the blue by a lawyer from the Republic of Togo (West Africa) who proposed the following to me: A family with the same surname as me died in an accident (as far as I know, no relation to me). They have a fortune of at least 6 million that they leave behind. Sadly enough, this family has no surviving relatives. This lawyer indicates that if this money is not claimed, it will go to the republic, which he would find a great shame, and suggests to me (because I have the same surname) to follow his instructions and pose as an heir. The inheritance will then be divided between the two of us. This story doesn't feel right, but should we go to the police with this?

Good day, this is about so-called Nigerian fraud, which occurs on a large scale. You can read more information here: https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nigeriaanse_oplichting. You don't need to go to the police, they can't do anything with it. It's best to throw these kinds of emails away immediately and not pay any further attention to them.
