Questioner

I do volunteer work and now I ask for a compensation of 150 euros per month but it has been refused, but the following text is clearly stated in the payroll tax manual 2012. In order to limit the administrative burden and to avoid hassle with receipts, for example, organisations can also choose to give volunteers a fixed amount as compensation for the costs. The Tax Authorities have set a maximum for this form of compensation of €150 per month to €1500 per year. With this fixed volunteer compensation, volunteers do not have to prove that costs have been incurred. The following additional rules apply:  For volunteers aged 23 and over, the compensation per hour is a maximum of €4.50 (with a maximum of €150 per month and €1,500 per year)  For volunteers under the age of 23, the compensation per hour is a maximum of €2.50 (with a maximum of €150 per month and €1,500 per year). Can I still qualify for the volunteer allowance of 150 euros per month?

The fact that the tax authorities allow you to pay out 150e as a volunteer allowance does not mean that you are automatically entitled to it. The organization for which you do volunteer work may decide for itself whether or not to compensate you for this, but it may not be more than the aforementioned 150th, at least not without the tax authorities imposing additional requirements. The bottom line is that you are not obligated to do the work (after all, it is voluntary) and the organization you work for is not obligated to pay anything.
