Withdraw exemptions? Free legal advice!

Questioner

Ir/Madam, Fontys Tilburg granted me three exemptions (Dutch second degree, third year part-time). The exemptions are dated on the Fontys site on October 3rd. Now I receive an email on November 9th, stating that my exemptions of November 3rd (!) are being withdrawn. It refers to a letter that I have yet to receive. One course has already passed. I did not attend the lectures, because I understood that I had been granted an exemption for them. Is this allowed? What can I do about this? I want to file an objection in any case, but it is very doubtful whether this will help.

Lawyer

Of course, that is not possible. You were granted an exemption on 3 October. Withdrawal of this exemption is not possible without further ado, based on the principle of trust. It is also important that you acted in that trust and did not attend lectures. In other words: if they now want to go back on the previously granted exemption, you will suffer damage as a result (study delay with all its consequences). Moreover, you cannot of course be held accountable for a letter that you have not yet received, as that is in conflict with the principle of due care. I therefore advise you - indeed - to object.
