Liability and claim for damages for parents

Questioner

My son lives with his father now he has committed a criminal offense and I am being held liable for a claim for damages. He is 13 years old and I have not had any contact with them for 3 years. Am I now obliged to contribute to the claim my insurance will not pay because my child lives with his father but he has no liability insurance.

If you have liability insurance, you would be wise to forward the claim to them. If they reject the claim, it means that they have determined that you cannot be held responsible for your son's actions. If you refer third parties who have a different opinion to your insurance company for consultation, you do not have to put in any (extra) effort yourself.
