Joyriding & Liability: Discover Your Insurance
Questioner
Our 15-year-old son took the car key of our car without my knowledge and permission, got into the car, started the engine, and crashed into another car. Both cars were damaged. So this is a case of joyriding without violence. I have filed a report and clearly stated that this happened without my knowledge and permission. My own car is fully comprehensively insured. I also have an AVP insurance for our family. I am liable for the damage to the other car. Can I claim this on the AVP insurance or on the fully comprehensive insurance of the car? Or is there a chance that both liability insurers will not respond (based on exclusions in the policy conditions)?Lawyer
In the case of joyriding without violence, the damage to third parties is compensated, but recovered from the perpetrator. If this person is a minor, the AVP does provide cover, but unfortunately not for joyriding without violence. You cannot therefore recover the damage from the AVP. The policy conditions are decisive here and can differ per insurer. I advise you to consult these. and.Neem de volgende stap
