Shoplifting: experiences and advice

Questioner

hello, question.. yesterday I was stopped by security at the checkout for shoplifting, I saw a Stanley knife lying on the floor in the store (hardware store) without any packaging and thought that someone had lost it so I thought why leave it there and didn't think about the fact that it could be theft (in hindsight stupid and naive of course).. but now I was accused of shoplifting and was given the choice of paying a fine of €181 and a 1-year ban from the store or calling the police.. now of course, out of fear and my work, I chose the fine and the ban from the store and I apologized a thousand times because stealing was not my intention... but the police were not involved at all and I didn't have to sign anything.. I did receive a letter (in my name) from the ban from the store and they copied my ID... in my 40 years I have never stolen anything or committed any other crime.. Will this now also be included in my police file?

Ir/Madam, The individual shop ban means that a consumer is denied access to a specific shop. The main reasons for entrepreneurs to impose a shop ban are to prevent or limit shoplifting or nuisance. If the reason is not clear to the consumer, he could experience the measure as unreasonable. In the police and judicial records, some things are not recorded. yours sincerely, HermanAlbersen Lawyer
