Legal assistance with subscriptions

I have a magazine subscription. This was for 1 year and was tacitly renewed for another year. According to the email, this could be cancelled on a monthly basis. Now I call to cancel and I am told that I am either stuck with the subscription until April, or have to pay €3.95 administration costs to terminate the subscription. is this allowed?

If you as a consumer have entered into an agreement that has been extended, the subscription must be cancellable free of charge. This is enforceable.
