Unlawful deductions from salary - Legal aid centre

Questioner

After 3 years I quit my job for a new job. A few days before my departure I had an altercation with my manager in which nothing improper was said. A few hours later I was told that I had to leave the company on the spot without the possibility of taking my personal belongings from my workplace. I was also initially not allowed to remove my personal belongings from the computer, which was later allowed at my insistence. Under severe psychological tension and pressure I accidentally deleted manuals that I had written myself. I reported this immediately but nothing was done about it. When my salary was deposited, a few days later than usual, it turned out that about 40% of my salary had been withheld, without any specification by the way, with the comment that an IT company had to be hired to retrieve the manuals. These were easy to retrieve via the back-up or to request from the supplier of the software. I was also not given the opportunity to retrieve the data myself in any way. My question is, is the employer allowed to simply withhold sums of money without there being any question of destruction or fraud?
