I am suspected of not having paid for part of my groceries. Now that was Friday and I was only spoken to about it on Monday. I did pay for these groceries but I cannot prove it because I paid in cash and no longer have a receipt because it was thrown away because the weekend passed. Now it is Thursday and my employer is threatening to check everything on the cameras and cash registers, which I think is fine because I know it has been paid. But my question is how long can my employer continue with this and how long does he have to investigate this after he has spoken to me because this does not work well after such an accusation.

The employer must check everything as soon as possible and confront you with the results. I would say that this must be done this week at the latest and then the whining must stop. You say that you paid for the groceries -> then you have nothing to fear. Even if you had not done so, the employer -if he wants to fire you- must take immediate action. In my opinion, this term has already expired and in any case next week. That is also why the employer can do little.
