Unemployment benefits and employment history: Questions and answers
Questioner
I became unemployed in April 2016 after 22 years of employment due to the bankruptcy of the company. (20 hours per week) From October 1st to December 31st 2016 I worked at a corporate catering company. I left voluntarily because I could start working for my current employer as of January 1, 2017. (More hours/income). I have been given a 7 month contract (24 hours/week). This will run until August 2017. Now I would like to leave this place and I have found a new job. But I can only work there through the employment agency. This means that they can tell me from one day to the next that I can stay home. My question now is whether I will once again be entitled to unemployment benefits and whether I will fall back on the employment history I have built up? (So both in terms of benefit period and benefit amount)Lawyer
The answer is complex. If you are no longer unemployed as an employee, then revival of the unemployment benefit is provided for in the Unemployment Act. There are exceptions to this. Based on what you write, those exceptions do not apply. In principle, you are therefore entitled to unemployment benefits. There are, however, circumstances where exceptions again apply.
