Days Off and Pay: What are your Rights?

Questioner

I would like to ask a question in this way. My boss gives me about 25 days off per year. When I first started working there, the mandatory days off (Christmas, Easter, Pentecost etc.) were from the boss. But that has changed, now he doesn't pay all the hours I would normally work that day and he takes the mandatory days off from my own hours and 25 vacation days. Is he allowed to do that?

Lawyer

You can assume that legally there are no mandatory days off. You are entitled to days off four times the working hours per week plus the statutory vacation days from the collective labor agreement or employment contract. If you are employed, you are entitled to wages. If the boss chooses to give you leave, he cannot force you to give away days off for it. How you can hold him to this depends on the employment contract and collective labor agreement.
