Statutory Sick Hours and Waiting Days

Questioner

I was sick in December. Our company works with 2 waiting days. I work part-time the following hours. Monday: 08.30 / 12.30 Tuesday: 08.30 / 17.00 Wednesday: 08.30 / 17.00 Friday: 08.30 / 12.30 On Monday I went home sick at 10:30. I count 2 sick hours for this. Tuesday I was out all day, 8 hours of illness On Wednesday I went home again at 10:30, 6 hours of illness. Now they have deducted 2 full days of 8 hours from me. I wonder if this works legally. 2 waiting days spread over 3 working days. Could you please advise me on this?

Waiting days are permitted, provided that they are included in the collective labor agreement or company regulations. The collective labor agreement or your employment contract may state that a waiting day may be deducted as a day off or holiday. I think it is not so illogical to count the waiting days as hours. You can ask your employer for an explanation. If it is clearly stated in the collective labor agreement or company regulations that a waiting day is limited to 24 hours, then this is a basis for lodging an objection.
