Volunteering and IAOW: What you need to know

Questioner

Since October 1st I have been receiving an IAOW benefit (at least I applied for it). Now I do volunteer work and receive €10.00 for 2.5 hours (1 lesson) which also includes travel expenses. This expense allowance also varies, the past 7 months I have not received any compensation at all because this volunteer work has virtually come to a standstill. What Do I have to report this to W&I of my municipality?

Costs that you incur as an employee to be able to perform your work properly can in principle be reimbursed by the employer without this being taxed. In addition, certain reimbursements are exempt, such as expenses that you do not experience as a reward. These exempt amounts are not added to the salary, which means that no payroll tax and national insurance contributions are withheld from them. The reimbursement of certain costs is not considered part of the salary within certain limits. This means that these reimbursements do not count towards your taxable income as an employee, so that no payroll tax and national insurance contributions are withheld. Good luck with that. You must report to the municipality that you are doing this volunteer work. You must also indicate that you receive an expense allowance for this. This expense allowance will subsequently have no effect on the amount of your benefit. Groenewegen's general answer is correct, but indeed not the answer to your question. I hope my answer will be more useful to you.
