Liability for damage during a handball match
Questioner
I went to a premier league handball match with my daughter. During the break we stood behind the goal. This spot is about 1 meter higher than the field. For safety reasons there is a net stretched from the ceiling to the field. We stood about half a meter behind the net. Feeling completely safe. The reserve players of the opposing team were throwing in the goal where we were standing. A player missed the goal and hit me full in the face despite the net. My glasses fell off my face onto the ground. The glasses broke (I've only had them for half a year). Can anyone be held liable for this?Lawyer
You felt safe behind the net and you should have been. Any suggestion that you accepted the risk must be rejected. In any event, the match organiser is liable for your damages; probably the player too. If you would like further clarification of the above, please let me know.Lawyer
Depending on the purchase price of the glasses, you could first ask the organization or the player if they have insurance where they can claim the damage. If that is not the case, you can formally hold the parties liable. For help with this or for further questions, you can contact me directly and free of charge.Questioner
Thanks for your responses. I have already contacted the association indirectly and they reject the claim, I also looked at the handball association, there appears to be liability insurance for all members. However, according to the handball association only for damage to members, which I find strange. The purchase price is such that I do not want to pay for the costs myself if it cannot be repaired. I will get an answer to this tomorrow.Neem de volgende stap
