Fined for uninsured car? Get free advice!
Questioner
Today I received a message from the RDW that I have not insured my Mini and that I will receive a fine of 400 euros. Now my Mini was suspended, (I thought) but this appears to have expired. Previously I received a notification in advance and could extend it. But now immediately a fine. What is the case now, the Mini has actually been demolished for parts (2010) but still not destroyed. I still have a part of doors and the roof.. for my current (driving) mini. What can I do about this? I find the fine absurdly high, my driving mini costs the insurance less than 7,- per month, for 400,- I can insure it for more than 4 years, and besides what have I done wrong now? Not extending/annulling the suspension on time. Why not first a message that the suspension expires etc. RDW is closed so I hope for a quick response.Lawyer
If the license plate is still in your name, you are in principle obliged to maintain insurance. The RDW checks via an automatic system whether all registered cars are insured. This results in quite a few of these types of fines. I advise you to object to the fine. You can also state that the car was scrapped. You must prove this. Did you not receive a certificate of indemnity from the scrapyard? If you can demonstrate that the car has long since been scrapped, then I see good grounds for an objection. Unfortunately, experience shows that the RDW is not very easy in cancelling fines. The attitude is 'the car was registered in your name so you are obliged to have insurance, whether you drive or not'. You can write an objection yourself. If you need help, you can contact a lawyer or attorney. Yours sincerelyNeem de volgende stap
