I received no help whatsoever from my previous doctor in quitting alcohol. I did everything myself at home without the help of the doctor, I went through hell and I am left with complaints as a result. I went to his consultation hour afterwards and he didn't believe me that I had kicked the habit and laughed at me. I was struggling with complaints and he didn't take me seriously, I switched to another doctor and he did take me seriously. the new doctor told me that my medical file was a disaster and my Riagg file was also a disaster. I then requested my file and was shocked by the facts stated in it. I was shocked that so many facts were incorrect, so I requested my file from my previous doctor. My file was incorrect and contained facts that I never had and serious errors. I called the Riagg to request my file and have not received a file to date, it first had to be improved and then I would receive a copy. I have not heard anything back yet. I am not taken seriously and my file is incorrect and pathetic. I am struggling with my health and would like to hold my previous GP liable. I would like some advice on this. Because no one takes me seriously here, I suffer enormously from this and have been rejected by it myself.

The GP must observe the standard of care that exists through the treatment agreement between you and the GP. As far as the standard of care is concerned, this depends on the cause and nature of the error and also the consequences thereof. It also depends on the treatment plan and the measures to be taken by the patient himself. In order to successfully hold the doctor liable, it must be established that the standard of care has not been observed.
