Contract extension or permanent contract? Get free advice!

My temporary contract with my employer will expire soon. If it is extended, they should offer me a permanent contract, but personally I don't see that happening. Suppose I agree to another temporary contract, would that be possible? Even though nothing about this is mentioned in the collective labor agreement? Thank you in advance!

It is not possible to waive these legal rights on paper. If you have had three temporary contracts, your fourth contract will automatically become a permanent contract. You can also derive these rights from that, if you wish. However, you cannot agree that you would not do that. And why wouldn't you want a permanent contract? It offers you more security in this time of crisis. With a permanent contract, your boss can fire you less quickly. And if you do want to leave, you simply have a notice period of one month. That is often the same with temporary contracts. So in principle, with a permanent contract you only take a step forward in terms of security!

Thanks for your quick response Rachelle! The reason I asked my question is because I assume that my employer will not offer me a permanent contract. That is why I wanted to see what the options are to still be able to stay. Of course I would really like a permanent contract!

You're welcome! Unfortunately, there's little you can do to make sure you can stay. The best thing to do is to keep doing your best at work, keep a low profile, and hope that you can just go back to work the day after your contract ends. Then you automatically have your permanent contract. Your collective labor agreement may also contain provisions regarding the period by which your employer should inform you that he will not extend your contract. In any case, it is considered the norm to inform you one month in advance, but this is not always an obligation and can therefore also happen at the very last moment. In any case, good luck!
