Orphan's pension: Are you entitled? Find out now!

Questioner

Dear, My sister has an orphan's pension and she will receive that when she turns 18. After a conversation I wondered whether I am/was also entitled to an orphan's pension? I was 21 when my mother died first and my father less than a year later. I was a student at the time and I still had 2 years of study to go. Now I am 25 and I am going to continue my studies. I now also have about 2 more years to complete my Masters. I would like to know whether I am entitled to anything and how I can best handle this. Yours sincerely,

You may still be entitled to an orphan's pension if your father and/or mother had a pension insurance or was affiliated with a pension fund. These sometimes pay out to children studying up to the age of 27. Your sister may be entitled to a benefit under the ANW (General Surviving Dependants Act). She can inquire about this with the SVB (Social Insurance Bank)
