Rental Car Damage? Get Legal Advice!

Questioner

Last year I rented a car from Hertz (South Africa). During the holiday another car drove into my rental car. This caused damage to both cars. I then called Hertz and asked what to do. I had to go to a police station and have a report drawn up. I did this together with the guilty driver. When returning the car at the end of the holiday I asked Hertz again if I had acted correctly. They confirmed this. I had an All risk insurance on the rental car with a deductible of 600 euros. The guilty driver also had a rental car with the same insurance. Now, finally, 590 euros have been taken from my credit card for the damage to the rental car. And this while my car was parked and I did nothing wrong and afterwards did exactly what Hertz told me to do. What is the best thing I can do now? I have already contacted Hertz, but because it concerns Hertz in South Africa, contact is difficult and they act as if I have not acted correctly.

call your bank immediately and ask if you can still have that credit card payment reversed or reversed. Then the ball is back in Hertz's court to get money from you if they can claim any rights to it.
