VVE Glass Damage Insurance: What are you entitled to?

Damage has occurred to the window of our owner-occupied home. The VVE has glass damage insurance. The chairman has given the telephone number for further information from the insurer, since the chairman had glass damage before and therefore recovered it from this insurance. The 2nd chairman has just come by and indicates that we should do this via our own insurance. However, I cannot see from the policy of the VVE insurance that we cannot recover this from this insurance. In which cases and under which conditions would I not be able to recover this?
