Legal payment rules for consumer purchases

Questioner

I bought a bathroom excluding installation. They ask me to pay the full amount in advance before delivery of goods. What is the legal requirement for this?

Lawyer

This is not legally permitted. However, payment may be requested at the time of delivery.

Article 7:26 paragraph 2 BW stipulates that in the case of a consumer purchase, the buyer can be required to pay up front a maximum of half of the purchase price. A maximum of 50%. Of course, the parties are free to deviate from this - in your favour. You can try to agree that you only have to pay the full price upon delivery.
