Legal obligations for unemployment benefits

Questioner

I currently have a WW benefit. Now I have responded to a vacancy and I have been offered this job (temporary job), but on closer inspection this is not the job that suits me well. Am I now obliged to accept this job? I have not yet signed the contract.

Lawyer

In the context of the WW you are obliged to do everything to find other, paid work. In principle you must accept this temporary work. If you refuse the job, the following problems may arise: 1. the employment agency no longer mediates for you; 2. this employer will not offer you any more work in the future; 3. If the UWV becomes aware of the case, you run the risk of losing all or part of your unemployment benefit. The UWV may become aware of this through an anonymous tip from someone close to you or because the employment agency/new employer reports your refusal to the UWV. So you can refuse the new job, but it is certainly not without risk.
