I took our car to a garage at the end of last year with the complaint that it was holding back and quite a bit. Reported that my friend thought it could be the coils. The mechanic removed the catalytic converter and this had to be the problem (4.5 hours of work?). A day later I was there again with the same problem then they removed the 2nd catalytic converter. According to him this was no problem! A day later again the same problem the car to the dealer and they came up with the story that the coils were broken. You understand I was angry. This reported to the garage and we did not have to pay the last bill for the 2nd catalytic converter. Now we take our car to the dealer for an MOT and very surprised that I am it does not pass the inspection because the catalytic converters are not present because the exhaust emissions appear to be too high! You understand that I am quite angry. Another bill of € 800, - This would not have been necessary if the garage had not removed these catalytic converters and listened to me. My question: can I recover part of the costs from the garage and am I then within my rights?Lawyer
The mechanic must perform his work properly and expertly. He should also have known that the catalytic converters do not need to be removed depending on the type of car in order to pass the MOT. You also informed him in advance that it could be due to the coils. This means that the mechanic can be held liable for the damage that occurred, because the incorrect repair is his fault (causal relationship). You can hold him (the garage) liable in writing.
