Garage liability: What are your rights?

Ir/Madam, I had my car repaired at a garage. The clutch needed to be replaced. After the repair was done, it went for a test drive where the engine was broken. The entire engine now needs to be replaced. I hand over my car to be repaired only to receive it back with a broken engine and therefore completely worthless. They argue that it occurs more often with this type of engine. A damage expert came to take a look and simply concluded that this damage could not have occurred during a test drive, and that was it. Now I would like to know to what extent the garage is liable for this. I give my car to them to have it repaired, not to have it returned broken.
