Liability of IT specialist in case of illegal software

If I, as an IT specialist, am asked to install illegal software by 1) the client or 2) the employer and I carry out this assignment on behalf of my employer, am I personally liable because it is so clearly illegal?

Yes, you can be held partly responsible for this. The first responsible is your employer who gives you the assignment. If the customer installs the software themselves after completing your assignment, the customer is responsible for the consequences. My advice is to report this to your employer and indicate that you should not be expected to commit a criminal offence. You even have the duty to report this to the appropriate authority.
