Liability When Buying a Car: Discover Your Rights
Questioner
Good afternoon, 3 weeks ago I bought a used car. It seemed like a good car, the seller did not report any defects and assured me that the timing belt had been replaced, but did not make the car ready to drive because the mechanic was on vacation (I did get a discount for that). After the purchase I had the car checked at a garage, where it turned out that the seal or something was leaking and a rear light was broken. I had both of these repaired at my own expense. It also turned out that the timing belt had not been replaced, while the seller assured me that it had. I raised this with him, and he will still put a new timing belt under it. Today, however, another defect appeared: my car suddenly did not shift into fourth gear. Suppose the automatic transmission is broken, is the seller liable? Given all the defects, I have the idea that I was misinformed when I bought it, but I did not take out a warranty. Thank you in advance!Lawyer
Hello, The absence of a contractually agreed guarantee does not mean that you are entitled to a sound product. The fastest legal solution to this problem is to write to the garage/have it written to (by registered mail of course) to proceed with the repair within a reasonable period of 14 days. If the garage does not do this, you may repair the car and recover the costs from the garage, if necessary by means of legal proceedings.Neem de volgende stap
