WGA benefit and allowance: Legal Advice

Questioner

I have recently been awarded a WGA benefit, the income is too low to live on. I have applied for an allowance at the UWV. However, the UWV has rejected this request because they believe that I am living in a joint household. I share the home with two other brothers. As far as my information is correct, I should be considered single and not be treated the same as married or cohabiting persons. Can you inform me about this? Thank you in advance.

Dear Questioner, You share a household with your brothers, whereby their income is also taken into account for determining the amount of your allowance. A similar principle is also determined for married couples and cohabitants. This may be the reason that your allowance has been rejected by the UWV. If you have a difference of opinion with the UWV, you can contact me.
