School liability in case of theft: Ask for help now

Questioner

My daughter's iPhone was stolen from her bag during gym class at her school. I reported it and the school reported it. I have had to buy a new phone and have asked the school to put me in touch with their insurer because I want to hold the school liable for the fact that the phone was stolen during school hours. However, the school management does not respond to my request. Am I within my rights to demand that the school put me in touch with the insurer and if so, how could I enforce this?

You can only hold the school liable if they have acted unlawfully towards your daughter. In my opinion, this is not the case because the school cannot be blamed for the iPhone being stolen. The school has rightly filed a report, but in doing so, the school has not admitted liability. The school therefore does not have to provide you with the insurer's details, since the school is not liable for the theft.
