Change Surname: How Do You Do That?

I have been married until now but after 16 years I no longer want to bear his surname. I have kept my maiden name. Is it possible that I can no longer bear his surname and if so, what is the best way to arrange this?

You may choose to no longer bear your spouse's surname. You do not need to make a request or follow any special procedures. However, you will have to report the change to the municipality so that it can be adjusted in the GBA. Agencies that are affiliated with the GBA, such as the tax authorities, will then automatically adjust your name. You can ask the municipality to which other agencies your data will be automatically passed on. You will have to report the change yourself to other agencies.
